The “Akita” – reasons why you should get this exotic dog

The Akita

Are you a pet lover, to be exact, a dog lover? Do you prefer the protective guard dog types? Ok, let me introduce this beautiful and exotic breed to you. At the end, I know you will be excited to add one to your pets. It’s called “Akita”! The ‘Akita’ is originally from Japan named after a province in north Japan. It was a breed that was originally used for hunting wild animals like the black bear and wild boar. It used to be a guard dog for Japanese royalty because of its loyalty and family guarding attributes. There are two main breeds, the original breed from Japan and the American standard breed which is much larger. It’s a large and powerful dog with some pretty small eyes for its large head.

Why you should get an Akita puppy…..

     1.      Confidence

What would you think of a breed of dog that weighs at least 100 pounds on the average and which used to hunt down black bears? The Akita has a strong and intimidating presence that can literally scare ‘Godzilla’. They are completely fearless and would never run away from most challenges. Your safest bet against danger and criminals, definitely.

     2.      Very loyal

As a very loyal Breed, the Akita would guard your family under any circumstances with the right treatment. The Akita would follow you to any place in your house everyday just to ensure that you and your family are safe from any form of danger. Awesome, isn’t it??

     3.      Intelligent

This breed of dog is also highly intelligent. It would never disturb the entire household with unnecessary barking unless there’s a need to. They say if you hear an “Akita” bark then there is something seriously wrong so you need to be extra alert. Some owners would even tell you that, if you pay close attention to your Akita’s murmurings you may take an opinion or two on how to set up your household. Yeah, that’s very right!! Better still, with the right training, you can give the Akita tasks like retrieving lost items. This breed of dog can pull your wrist to its leash simply because it wants to take a walk (smile).

The Downside Of Keeping This Awesome Pet…..

This breed of dog is not easy to train at all. Infact you need to do extensive research on training before bringing home an Akita puppy. It’s not a puppy you send to a trainer. They do not respond to harsh training (a method used in most standard training) because they can be quite stubborn. You have to do the training yourself together with your family or those you live with. This is because this breed of dog requires companionship to create loyalty and protect you and those around you. By the way, if you want the best online resource on how to train any breed of dog on your own, go here: Best Online Dog Trainer. This guy can literally teach a dog to go fishing, haha. Now back to the subject. This breed is not your everyday lapdog despite its intelligent and loyal nature so it’s not advised for the first time dog owner. They are very wary of strangers unless the owner is around. A prolonged eye contact with this breed would raise its ‘suspicion antennae’. Finally, the Akita is not a dog for your backyard. Cage it in the backyard and it would become lonely and aggressive towards everything.

All in all, this is an awesome breed of dog. Treat it right and you have a loyal friend for life. The combination of absolute loyalty, confidence, strength and intelligence makes it a must have. Don’t you think so?

How Much Should I Feed My Puppy?

A puppy

Have you been asking yourself this question – “how much should i feed my dog or puppy”? Which dog breed type of puppies do you have? Breeds with smaller puppies or those with large puppies? Do you feed them the every day ordinary meal with at least some beef, etc? It may seem simple but how much to feed a puppy or your dog, really isn't. Honestly, you’re not alone. Many of us take our puppy's feeding for granted. Feed your puppy the wrong diet in the right portion and vice versa and they may be crippled with one disease or another for life. Here are a couple of useful but basic tips that every pet owner should know. However, if you require deeper knowledge and real action in how much to feed a puppy or a dog, go here - How to feed your dog . You would learn exactly what to do in any situation.

Breast Feeding

First of all, it’s absolutely important that you allow breast feeding for at least the first 5 weeks. It’s considered safe to introduce small amounts of food in the right portion after this period, though the eventual weaning should occur around 8 weeks. Today, it’s common scientific knowledge that human breast feeding is the best for newly born babies. This goes to say that nature has its own ways. This also applies to all animals including puppies. Breast feeding offers the best foundational nutrition like proteins for growth and calcium for strong bone formation, in a balanced proportion for all living things including puppies. It goes without saying that if you are going to get a puppy, then you should make sure it’s been weaned off breast feeding or you might have to strain to find the right nutritional balance to feed it. There’s nothing like natural food.

LARGER PUPPIES VS SMALLER PUPPIES

It’s important to note that dog breeds with smaller puppies are fed differently from those with larger puppies. Smaller puppies usually require more protein and calcium than larger puppies. This can be a little elusive. Assuming you have both small puppy and large puppy breeds that were born on the same day, the temptation would be to assume that they would mature at the same time so you’re likely to feed them in like manner but that shouldn't be the case. Simply put, dog breeds with smaller puppies usually mature 12 months earlier than dog breeds with larger puppies. It is therefore essential to note the distinction. It’s safe to use the free feeding method for dogs with smaller breed puppies; the free method being, allowing them to have as much fill as they can. They would usually adapt to any food given them. However, with  larger breed puppies, it’s important to control the portion of food given them since they would take longer to reach maturity. It is therefore essential to feed them with the right amount of food and nutrients because most of these breeds are prone to bone diseases. Too much protein or calcium or less of both can cripple your dog for life therefore you need a balance. Finger tip Dog Care Essentials For Pet Owners

The dog, man's best friend

We all know dogs are probably our most loyal friends but are you treating your dog right? Sometimes we believe that by providing food and shelter our dogs should be happy but how many of us haven’t seen stray dogs around being sent to pounds? It goes to say that if you can’t take complete care of a dog, then you’re better off not owning one. However, if you want to own one, then you must have these at your fingertips.

1. Very often we get a pet dog as a gift from our neighbours so we hardly research the breed. Each breed of dog has its own care essentials therefore it’s important to research the breed and know the right treatment to provide. For example, some dogs may require your personal training to bond rather than being sent to a trainer.

2. Build a comfortable Kernel. Based on your weather conditions you should get a Kernel that suits your climate if you intend to keep your dog in the backyard. If you live in a hot and humid climate, building oil painted wooden kernel under shades of trees would be perfect. Note however that, raising your dog in an open compound is the best because dogs require companionship.

3. Hygiene is very important in keeping your dog healthy, obviously. Find the best and most nutritious food for your breeds and always ensure that your dogs have their meals from very clean bowls to avoid common health issues like worm infection. Ensure regular deworming and vitamin taking for your dogs to keep them healthy and free from diseases they may be prone to. Also importantly, ensure they have clean water to drink.

4. Get a tag with your dog’s name on it so that when it strays, it can easily be located. Also ensure that your dog is always on a leash when you take it for a walk. It would save you a lot of trouble with the authorities if it has behavourial issues. You should also check with authorities in your area requiring any permit or registration issues before getting a dog

5. You should also ensure that your dog gets all the necessary vaccinations as puppy and visits the vet regularly for checkups.

6. Last but not least, you need to train your dog. You could hire a trainer but your best bet should be to train it yourself because the companionship would create a strong and loyal bond between you. Here’s a great resource that could help you achieve that Dog Care Essentials From The Best Trainer
